Brighten Your Life this Winter

Welcome back to the blog for the Mansions at Briggs Ranch! Last month we talked about setting the mood in your apartment with cues to signal comfort and nostalgia to your senses. This month we’re focusing on a more inward approach: Seasonal depression, also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (or SAD), plagues about six percent of the US population, while an extra 14 percent of the adult US population suffers from a lesser form known as the winter blues. Today we have ideas for how you can help yourself conquer these feelings and brighten up your life and your apartment here in San Antonio, TX.

Keep a Gratitude Calendar

Thanksgiving might be over, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t still remember what you’re grateful for. Keeping a gratitude calendar is a great way to appreciate what you’ve been given and acknowledge all the things in your life that have brought you joy.

Get Some Sun

Cloudy winter days make looking on the bright side difficult. Buy a UV light or take advantage of the sun on a clear day by spending a few moments outside. Open your windows more often or take a walk to get some sun and boost your mood.

Consider Therapy

Therapy is nothing to be ashamed of — in fact, talking to a professional can benefit most everyone’s life in a host of important ways, whether you need a clinical diagnosis or you need someone to talk to. If you feel like you need a professional listening ear from someone who can give you guidance you trust, do it! Finding the right person who can help you will be worth the effort you take to getting there.

What helps you stay happy during the darker days of winter? Share your thoughts with the rest of the apartment community by leaving a comment. We hope you have a bright and cheerful winter season!
